I've been here twice and the ice cream here is great! Although the staff doesn't seem to be the friendliest, the ice cream really does make up for it. They give you surprisingly huge portions for what you pay for and have a wide variety on their menu. What made this place stand out to me was how they have unique softserve flavors every week (coconut, orange creme, etc)! If you ever feel lost on what to get here, I would suggest the fruity pebble twister!

Went here with a friend for some frozen yogurt and to grab a coffee next door. When we parked, the owner came running out to my car, yelling and harassing us for parking in his lot (which was completely empty). He was extremely rude and made us both very uncomfortable. Never have I experienced such hostility in East Lansing before. Needless to say, we will be getting our frozen treats elsewhere from now on.

Wouldn't have minded popping in for a treat, but the owner came out and started yelling at me not to use his parking lot as soon as I pulled in. Was gonna patronize the establishment after a quick meeting, but will not be returning.

Best place in East Lansing for ice cream! Friendly staff, and a very clean environment. Be sure to try a twister they def don't skimp out on the goodies.

Customer service really sucks, I've never seen a single employee even crack a smile but the ice cream makes up for it! Peanut butter was awesome and the soft serve is great too. The portions are huge and price is spot on! Best ice cream place in east lansing my far!!

I've been sleepin' on this place for almost 2 years. Tried the banana pudding ice cream yesterday...it's epic. Went back tonight and tried the cookie jar flavor...it bummed me out...it was dull. The service was good on both visits. Low price. Decent portions. If you can stand obnoxious co-patrons for the time it takes to get your order, it's worth it.

Only stopped in once so cant say much, but it was clean and the ice cream was really good. wish they had a pistachio but they seem to have the main ones down. usually seems fairly busy and the guy behind the counter was nice.

We stopped by after having dinner next door... they have lot of options, so it took be a while to select what I wanted... it wasn't busy, so service was quick... the guy helped me out was friendly. The tables were all full though... I wish they had something like this in Ann Arbor.... There's plenty of parking in front.... they take credit cards, which is really nice.... on second though, maybe it's good thing they don't have one in Ann Arbor, otherwise I would be going there everyday!

Very good! Portions are big, prices are low, and quality is high. The menu surprisingly went beyond just ice cream, including slushies, floats, and more. The Twisters, which I can personally recommend, feature a large array of mix-ins, including Oreos, Kit Kats, and multiple cereals. Great place to go with friends. The atmosphere is casual, but clean. I feel like they could have had more flare inside (hence four stars), but the ice cream is very satisfying.

Ice cream is amazing and you get a ton for your money. The workers always look pissed/depressed but I guess it must be hard to work around yummy food all day and not be eating it. The banana split is big enough to split between 2-3 people.

The only place to go for good soft-serve in EL. They have great prices and they'll make just about anything for you. They also have quality ingredients. Definitely not the place to go if you have an allergy (to something like peanuts or chocolate), but otherwise, there's no reason to go anywhere else! Also, with their new location, they're open most weekends throughout the year. Extremely exciting for those of us who want good ice cream or a milkshake even when it isn't sunny.

I eat a lot of ice cream. But Tasty Twist is definitely where I go in East Lansing when I'm craving something frozen and delicious. Try the blueberry granola frozen yogurt, you will not be let down!!

Normally I'd give a place like this a good 2+ stars but, judging by the loyal fans below and in-store, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and round up today. The good: convenient location (w/parking!), big portions at reasonable prices, nice variety of scoop/soft-serve and menu items. The average: Ashby's ice cream... it's above average - way better than Hershey's for example - but I honestly have no idea how it won any awards. The flavors tend to be overly sweet and have an artificial aftertaste in my opinion. Others rave about the soft-serve and, despite the interesting flavors featured, also seem just average. The bad: first, there's the service... with no one else to wait on, why can't either of the 2 servers or the owner acknowledge my presence (the 3rd was helping someone)? In case they are confused, "Hi, be right with you" or "Thanks for coming in, someone will help you in a sec" are good starting points. My recent exchange was very different: the server stood in front of me, waiting for my order - absolutely NO verbal communication transpired during my visit except for her giving me my total and counting back the change. No greeting, no thanks, no help. The owner, whom I hear is a nice guy, just stood in the corner talking to his friends, oblivious to (and part of) the snowballing service fiasco at hand. A request for a sample was met with substantial eye-rolling. Too bad I didn't spy a tip jar... 'cuz I sure had a few. Also, I remembered the things I didn't like on my first visit. 1) Styrofoam cups (okay, they're cheap and keep prices down, but I'll gladly pay 10-cents more for a styrene-free diet). 2) Line control: there's no process to handle a rush. A straight line forms out the door, completely disrupting the order, service, pay, and leave flow. 3) And what are their hours... can't they just confirm them on their Facebook page or something? They just never seem sure. In short, a convenient place for a sweet treat; especially nice that it is an independent shop and provides a decent price/quality/size value. Although I have experienced much better, I'm rounding up today because I'm not sure my recent visits reflect their normal operations. If indeed true, however, a subsequent review will likely be one star lower.

Love their flavors! I try a new one each time and they are delicious. The banana pudding one is outrageously good!

Cheap. Easy. Cute. Nostalgic. It's close to campus and the ice cream portions are huge. Legit ice cream place if you don't need anything fancy and you just want to kick back with a friend or two, sit on the curb, and enjoy ice cream. Never let this place leave!!

Accept no imitation! I have been going to Tasty Twist since I was a kid in the 80s, and while I don't live in the area anymore I still wholeheartedly support the business. They were forced to move locations (and they do now take credit cards) but they are still as reasonably priced as I remember them! There is a similarly named ice cream place in their old location but don't be fooled! Tasty TWIST is located just a couple tenths of a mile west. Their soft serve ice cream is nice and creamy and I don't really love ice cream that much - I had cake batter (flavor of the week!) and vanilla twist today. Good stuff! They also have killer banana splits.

I live across from Tasty Twist and my only qualm with it is that they do not accept credit cards. Other than that, a kids size twist soft serve is like $0.75 and quite great on a warm summer/spring day.

Yum! Ice cream! Always a good treat and a fun place to come on a hot day!

Tasty Twist is fantastic. Get a Twister with Cap'n Crunch and chunks of Reese's peanut butter cups. You'll be amazed and euphoric for at least 20 minutes.

Many people have fond memories of going to Tasty Twist as a kid, but honestly there ice cream is just okay and if you don't have memories of going there as a kid, it's nothing special

we wouldn't kick this out of our mouths. ever. soft serve, regular scoops, slushies, sundaes, and other delicious shit. mmmmmm. mmm. super cheap, takes credit cards now. it's not the most convenient in-and-out location, but we don't even give a care--definitely worth the inconvenience. most importantly--don't be fooled by the tasty treat in the old location down farther toward okemos. this is an east lansing institution, and we hope it remains that way for years to come.

Scott King and his crew are the best. The Twist has the best ice cream in the Mi PERIOD. Every time I'm in EL I stop by for some twist.

Just went here for the first time today (I usually frequent the Cool Cone). The line was long, but the ladies working the counter plowed through it like a buzz saw. The place is tiny but they have tons of help and we had ice cream in hand in less than 5 minutes. The ice cream itself is standard fare, but executed well and at a great price ($5 for a flurry (they call it a "twister) and a boston cooler-- stop by Cold Stone sometime and see what you can get for $5). I will be back here next time I want ice cream and the Dairy Store is closed.
